from this month's dinela restaurant week list (http://dinela.com/wine-and-dinela/), two in particular appealed to me: Bashan and The Foundry. after reading tons of rave reviews, i had been waiting for the right opportunity to try these two restaurants. Bashan's set list was a tad pricey for me, but The Foundry's tasting menu seemed reasonable. however, after all the hype on The Foundry, i was pretty disappointed with this top 10 rated los angeles restaurant (source: los angeles magazine 2008) last night.

pros: nice outdoor patio seating. easy reservations.. d/t the lack of? :(
cons: food was pretentious and overwhelming. it tasted experimental and lacked thought into the dishes.
for an example, our appetizer: yellowtail sashimi with pineapples, caper vinaigrette, celery pieces plus bacon pieces is not exactly a smooth combination on your palette. the very essence of "yellowtail sashimi" destroyed and forgotten.
conclusion? i wouldn't go back nor recommend the Foundry.
